Kate Wilson, Montana & British Columbia Liaison, Bonneville Power Administration

As the Montana & BC Liaison for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), Kate is the primary point of contact and connection between BPA and all state agencies, the Governor’s Office, congressional members/staff, legislators, the Montana Public Service Commission, Legislative Services staff, local governments and municipalities, and other stakeholders. BPA is a nonprofit federal power marketing administration based in the Pacific Northwest. Although BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, it is self-funding and covers its costs by selling its products and services, marketing wholesale electrical power from 31 federal hydroelectric projects (including Libby and Hungry Horse here in Montana), one nonfederal nuclear plant and several small nonfederal power plants in the Columbia River Basin. BPA also owns and maintains 15,000 miles of transmission lines and funds the maintenance, operations, and fish and wildlife mitigation related to the federal dams in the basin. The Montana & BC Liaison works within the Intergovernmental Affairs team, focused on a wide variety of energy and natural resource policies and programs as they relate to Montana, the province of BC, and the Columbia River Basin as a region.
